Primary school student drowns in Pomeroon River

A 12-YEAR-OLD epileptic student of Charity Primary School, lost his life while swimming with cousins in the Pomeroon River Friday last. Dead is 12-year-old Geramey Benjamin, of Dredge Creek, Upper Pomeroon River.
The boy’s body was seen floating in the Dredge Creek area by a resident who raised an alarm. Relatives said the child suffers from epilepsy.
Medical sources indicate that if someone with epilepsy dies suddenly and unexpectedly, no obvious cause of death can be found.
The police were called to the scene and the body was removed and taken to the Charity Wharf. It was later transported to the Suddie mortuary.
Statements from the two cousins: ages seven and 18 were taken as police continue their investigations.
Reports indicate that the youths were swimming on Friday when the lad drowned; the body was fished out the following day.
