MURDER accused, Colin Alleyne, who was charged with the murder of a 77– year–old Montrose, East Coast Demerara woman in August 2015, has been hospitalised after he received a severe beating at the Lusignan Prison on Wednesday.Reports are that Alleyne, 23, has been described as disorderly and was moved to the Lusignan Prison on Tuesday after several altercations with other remand prisoners at the Georgetown Prisons on Camp Street.

On Wednesday morning, when the man awoke, he was given a sound thrashing by other inmates at Lusignan after they recognised him. The man reportedly had several fights with the prisoners several months ago and on recognising him on Wednesday, he was dealt a severe beating. He was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital Corporation (GPHC) and remains hosptialised under police guard.

Alleyne of Lot 7, Cemetery Road, Timehri, East Bank Demerara, appeared before Magistrate Zameena Ali at the Sparendaam Magistrate’s Court on August 25, 2015, charged with the murder of Montrose caretaker, Danrasie ‘Carmin’ Ganesh.

The prosecutor stated that on August 1, 2015 at Montrose in the Sparendaam Magisterial District, he murdered Ganesh. Prior to being arrested for the capital offence, Alleyne worked as a Welder and resided at Timehri.

Ganesh was found dead in the two-storey building where she had been the caretaker. The entire attack was caught on CCTV cameras in the house, showing a man continuously beating and strangling the woman, in what was first thought to be a robbery.
