LABOURERS cutting grass in the Thomas Street avenue on Tuesday stumbled on a foetus floating in the water.
The foetus from all appearances had been in the water overnight. One of the workers sounded an alarm and persons in the neighbourhood quickly gathered around to see for themselves.

Persons on the scene gasped and expressed disgust at the savage act. It was evident that someone had aborted the premature child and disposed of it in the trench under the cloud of darkness.
Meanwhile, a television cameraman in front of the school compound at the time, was the first media operative alerted to the discovery.

The cameraman said moments after the discovery, a primary schoolboy, displaying the object on his cellular phone, ran over to him, beckoning to him that he should “… come see a baby in de trench.”
With school having just been dismissed, it was initially difficult to keep the schoolchildren at bay, but teachers and the police were quickly informed and the police sought to keep the children and the crowd away from the scene.
