– ‘for the bride who is determined to plan her own wedding’

A WEDDING has always been described as one of the happiest days of a woman’s life, and for Guyanese wedding-planner for Serenity Events Consultants, Tammy Edwards, the wedding must be executed seamlessly. According to Tammy, she likes helping brides who want to plan their own special day, but unfortunately doesn’t know where to start.

Tammy noted that from her experience of planning weddings in Guyana, one would usually find a lot of “confusion” associated with the planning and execution of the special event.
“There’s always some aunty doing this and another doing that,” she joked.
When describing what causes a wedding to not go according to plan, she related that despite the bride having a clear vision of how exactly she wants her wedding to be; and many times the event is not properly organised.

According to Edwards, “A lot of people want to get married, but don’t know where to start.”
So, thinking outside of the box in an attempt to assist those potential brides, the wedding-planner has decided to embark upon a “Bride School,” which consists of day-long workshops aimed at teaching brides the “dos and don’ts” of planning and executing a dreamy wedding. She also stated that she likes thinking outside the box and as a result, she is able to convey her knowledge and experience.

The wedding-planner revealed that this school will provide brides to be with an understanding of the wedding timeline — from the planning of the intricate events leading up to the wedding, down to the execution of those events and the wedding itself. Participants will also receive guidelines on how to budget, how to choose the perfect location and décor, how to take photographs and of course, a guide on choosing the food.

At the Bridal School workshop, Tammy noted that there will be photographers explaining the perfect wedding poses and the entire photography aspect of the wedding, which involves capturing all the special moments.
“People need to know how to choose their vendors for their food and decorations and their photographers,” she said and added, “They need to know what to do and who they are holding accountable.”

Edwards highlighted that the price for the workshop is $15,000 and includes breakfast, lunch and snacks in between. Also, as a special, if the brides to be bring their fiancés or another friend, only an additional $5,000 is charged.
The workshop will cater for all wedding types and will be held on March 18 at the Jonas Bridal House located on High Street, Georgetown, from 08:00hrs to 16:30 hrs.

The wedding-planner mentioned that she expects a turnout of about 15-20 people at the inaugural ‘Bride School’ workshop.
“I am considering making this an annual event, or perhaps even doing it twice a year,” stated a hopeful Tammy.
