Two in custody for Jialing robbery

TWO persons are being questioned by police following the brazen robbery of a female and shooting of a taxi driver on Thursday at Jialing Motorcycles and Repair store located at the corners of Oronoque and Charlotte Streets, Georgetown.Commander, ‘A’ Division, Clifton Hicken, told reporters on Friday that two men are in custody assisting police with the investigation. He said the male owner of a blue 212 motorcar, which fits the description of the car used to conduct the robbery, along with another male, is cooperating with the police.
Hicken explained that while the police are still gathering information, they were unsuccessful with obtaining video footage from the CCTV that would have assisted them significantly in their investigation. He noted that the lack of sufficient footage will not serve as a deterrent to the force, as he is confident the perpetrators of the crime will be found.
A taxi driver has been hospitalised after he was shot in his leg during a daring robbery at Jialing Motorcycles and Repair store. The taxi driver was at the time transporting Elda Belle, 41, of Crown Street, Queenstown, who was robbed of a bag containing over $1 million, which, according to reports, she had only shortly before withdrawn from a city bank.
It is alleged that two men traced the duo to the store in a dark blue 212 motorcar and pounced on them outside the store. The thieves had parked across the street from Jialing and then accosted Belle after she exited the vehicle. They shot the taxi driver and snatched the woman’s handbag, which contained the money and her licensed firearm.
The injured man was taken to the hospital, while Belle reported the incident to the police.
