TTFA could reveal a new national men’s coach this week

PORT OF SPAIN, Trinidad (CMC) – A new national men’s senior coach could be announced as soon as this week, the Trinidad and Tobago Football Association has said.
Speaking in the wake of the latest fiasco surrounding the position, FA president David John-Williams said he did not expect the search for a new head coach to be a protracted one.
“I feel within the next three to five days we will have a new coach,” John-Williams said in an interview last weekend, without hinting at any likely candidate.

Since the shock resignation of Belgian Tom Saintfiet almost a week ago, several names have emerged to fill the vacant position.
In a letter sent to the FA, the current group of 23 national players called for the return of the popular Stephen Hart who was sacked only last November, following a series of poor results.
The players also put forward the names of W Connection’s Stuart Charles-Fevrier, former England defender and experienced coach Terry Fenwick and former national player and local coach Angus Eve.
Colombian Francisco Maturana, who has coached T&T in the past, is also said to be among the candidates to replace Saintfiet.

Regardless, the FA’s new choice will face an uphill task with Trinidad and Tobago winless in the ongoing CONCACAF final round of qualifiers for next year’s World Cup in Russia.
Last November, they went down 2-0 to Costa Rica before crashing to a 3-1 defeat to Honduras days later. They face Panama and Mexico in their next set of qualifiers in late March.
National goalkeeper Jan-Michael Williams, who has spoken on behalf of his teammates in recent days, said there was still belief T&T could reach the World Cup.

“The dream is still alive obviously and I think we know as players that we have a lot of work to do,” Williams said.
Saintfiet stepped down as head coach after just five weeks and four games in charge, citing a lack of support from the local FA as one of his main reasons.
