Road Safety Council urges responsible driving for Christmas

The Guyana National Road Safety Council would like to take this opportunity to wish you and your Family a safe and Happy Holidays!Once again the Guyana National Road Safety Council is pleading, with you to look out for each other be your brother’s keeper, how can we say we love God, who we cannot see and our brother who we can see we can’t show kindness. The rainy weather is on us, we are pleading with all Road Users to use the road with extra care taking all precautions to ensure safety of yourself and others.
The year 2016 have surpass the death rate for 2015, the time for action is now, according to the Decade of Action for Road Safety2011-2020, let us all making a meaningful contribution in reduction death by 50% by the year 2020, as declared by the United Nations Decade of Action for Road Safety.
Too many needless deaths are happening on our road ways, we need to join hands and tools, to destroy this carnage that is plaguing our roadways, taking our children. Mothers are wailing for their babies fathers are mourning for their sons and daughters, children are grieving for their parents, families are being destroyed children are left to fend for their families/themselves.
These deaths don’t have to happen if road users adhere to all road traffic rules and signs, and signals safety indicators ensure us if we use proper safety helmets ,seat belts etc. correctly and all safety engineering measures are in place you can save life and injuries in some cases by 75%.
The Council would like to send out condolences to all families who lost their love ones our Countries roadways; we sympathized with you and encourage you to join the Guyana National Road Safety Council in the campaign to reduce death and Injuries by 50% by the year 2020. Every voice counts if you save one life that is very important.
Once again we continue to call on the Ministry of Public Security to fast track the High Security Number Plate system to assist in Speed management, the GNRSC is confident the High Security Number Plate system will reduce speed and a lot of other road traffic issues, licensing system etc. Also the demerit point system on the DUI and other related charges.
Again, we plead with you all to use the road with Care Caution Courtesy Consideration and Common Sense. REMEMBER: LIFE DOES NOT HAVE A RESET BUTTON. DRIVE SAFELY. Don’t Drink and Drive, Designate a driver, call a family, call a sober friend.
