FOR 10 consecutive years, Metro Office and Computer Supplies have made significant contributions to the staging of the Kennard’s Memorial Turf Club’s (KMTC) Annual Boxing Day Horse Race Meet and this year it’s no different as the company will be sponsoring the first prize cash award for the winner of the feature event on the day’s eight-race card.Yesterday, Metro’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO), Avia Lindie handed over a cheque valued $1.2M to the KMTC for the first place finisher of the feature `B’ and Lower Class race over nine furlongs.
The day’s activities will get underway at 13:00hrs at the KMTC’s facility, Bush Lot Farm, Corentyne, Berbice.
At a simple ceremony held at the company’s head office in Quamina Street, the CEO said this is the 11th year that her company will be supporting the KMTC and it all came about through the friendship of the Kharag-Ramnarrayan and the Kennard’s family.
She said Metro is pleased to be associated with the event and pledged Metro’s support in the future.
Chairman of the Police Service Commission,Justice Cecil Kennard,in accepting the contribution informed that the Kennard’s and the Kharag-Ramnarayan families are closely associated and went on to state that Deo Kharag-Ramnarayan served as president of the KMTC for over 20 years, starting in 1955 before he migrated to North America. However, since his migration, his son Ron started the Metro Office and Computer Supplies business and he (Ron) has since been supportive of all of KMTC’s activities.
Justice Kennard pointed out that after Jumbo Jet Auto Sales got involved with horse racing, he noticed that the prize money for events were raised and he told himself that he would not be left out and with this in mind, he called Ron Ramnarayan in New York and informed him of what’s taking place in the sport.Ron immediately rose to the occasion and thus, the sponsorship has increased.
Meanwhile, the second, third and fourth place finishers of the feature event will earn $600,000, $300,000 and $150,000 respectively.
