Scorpions crush Leewards by an innings and 77 runs

THE Jamaica Scorpions through a good allround performance on Saturdayay, crushed the Leeward Islands Hurricanes by an innings and 77 runs to remain on top of the Digicel Regional 4-Day Tournament. Replying to the Hurricanes’ 243 all-out, the Scorpions blasted their way to 550-7 declared before again routing their opponents cheaply, this time for 234.
The Scorpions’ mammoth innings was anchored by two centuries, one from wicketkeeper Devon Thomas 114 not out, and a massive 194 from Brandon King. Man-of-the-match, King, was scoring his maiden first-class century.
The innings was also aided by half-centuries from John Campbell, 88, Shacaya Thomas, 54, and Jermaine Blackwood, 55.
There was no response from the Hurricanes bowlers, as Rahkeem Cornwall, with 2-68, turning in the best figures.

In response, the Leewards, batting a second time, feared no better than they did in the first innings, with Kieran Powell, 40, Chesney Hughes, 54, and wicketkeeper Jahmar Hamilton, who scored a century in the first innings, getting 45.
Nobody capitalised on the starts, and the bowling of Damion Jacobs 5-64, and skipper Nikita Miller, 3-44, proved too much.
Jacobs second-innings tally meant he ended with figures of 10-167 in the match, the third of his first-class career.
Pace bowlers, Reynard Leveridge and Marquino Mindley took a wicket apiece.
The win gives the Scorpions 21 points to take them to 67.8,
The 21 points were broken up into 12 for the victory, three bowling points, one pace bowling points, and five batting points.
The Leewards, collected 3.8 points, one batting point, two bowling points and 0.8 pace bowling points.
