treated Saturday to a Youth Group Children Christmas party which was sponsored by Force Commander of ‘A’ Division, Assistant Commissioner Clifton Hicken at Durban Park , Homestretch Avenue, Georgetown.

According to Commander Hicken, the police force has enjoyed working with the communities through the formation of youth groups over the years and those efforts were largely successful, since the police did not impose itself on communities, but rather adopted a collaborative approach.
Several youth groups were brought together from different communities with each of them showcasing song, dance and poetry. Hicken noted that while the Guyana Police Force is reforming itself, it is also working to ensure that it reforms the youths. Hicken said that he loves to help children, as they are the future leaders and helping them in any way will always be his goal.

In giving introductory remarks, Deputy Commander of ‘A’ Division Senior Superintendent Calvin Brutus underscored the benefits and role of the police force, while urging the youths to have goals and dreams for positive development. Chairing the event was media personality Mondale Smith, while performances were also done by the famous Linden “Jumbie” Jones. Youth groups from Agricola, Albouystown/Charlestown, Timehri, Alberttown, Ruimveldt and Tiger Bay also provided entertainment in the form of songs, dance and poems.
