Resaul, Gentle and Downes reach Trophy Stall Doubles Championship finals

PLENTY action is anticipated as the Trophy Stall Doubles Table Tennis Championship finals continue today. Guyana’s top three tennis players Heimraj Resaul, Afruica Gentle and Anthony Downes have all reached the finals of their categories in what is being dubbed the leading doubles tournament of the year.
In the Ladies’ Open Doubles semi-finals the budding Afruica Gentle with partner Cristy Campbell easily defeated Shawna Gentle and Fiona Bushell 6-1, 6-1 while Alana Chung and partner Margaret Subryan went down to Shelly Daly-Ramdyhan and Nicola Ramdyhan 6-0, 6-3.
In the Mixed Open Doubles quarterfinals J. Kalekyezi and A. Chung knocked off the pair of Philbert Clarke and Diana Bharat 6-1, 6-3 to reach their first semi-finals, but succumbed to the overwhelming power of the Anthony Downes and Afruica Gentle 6-1, 6-2.
The pair of Heimraj Resaul and Kalyca Fraser defeated the young powerhouse of Mark McDonald and Nicola Ramdyhan 6-1 7-5.
In the Men’s Open Doubles semifinals Heimraj Resaul and Jordan Beaton dashed the hopes of Oswin Coggins and Stephen Bailey by taking them down 6-0, 6-2 while Anthony Downes and partner Jason Andrews defeated Mark McDonald and Ronald Murray 6-4, 6-4 in what was their toughest encounter of the tournament.
The Ladies’ Doubles finals will be played at the National Racquet Centre today from 12:00hrs, with the Men’s Doubles finals and Closing Ceremony to follow.
The public is invited to give these athletes support by turning out to witness Guyana’s best doubles players vie for the top championship titles.
