Plaisance businessman shot, robbed $4M

Businessman Kenneth Earle of Prince William Street, Plaisance, East Coast Demerara (ECD) was on Friday afternoon shot and robbed by bandits, who escaped with more than $4M in cash.A police statement said the businessman, accompanied by a friend, went to a city bank on Friday afternoon and withdrew a large amount of cash to pay his workers. Having withdrawn the money, the two then travelled to Plaisance via Earle’s motor car. Upon arrival, they exited the vehicle and were immediately confronted by two armed bandits, who discharged their firearms, hitting Earle in both legs.

The bandits them relieved the two men of the cash, and escaped in a tinted vehicle. The incident reportedly occurred at about 15:30hrs.

The police statement said that Earle was rushed to the Georgetown Public Hospital (GPHC), where he was treated and admitted. He is said to be in a stable condition.

Investigators have retrieved several spent shells from the scene, as investigations continue in an effort to apprehend the two suspects.
