Permission needed to vend

THE Mayor and City Council (M&CC) has said that business persons cannot just come out to vend at any spot of their choice just because concessions are usually granted by the Council during the Christmas season. In a press statement, the M&CC said business owners who operate within the central business district should seek permission, in writing, to use Council’s pavements, parapets and other thoroughfares to display goods for the festive season.

The Council has observed that some members of the business community are occupying the Council’s space without the requisite permission from the council.

“The Municipal District Council’s Act states that no person should occupy the Councils Thoroughfares without permission.” The Council is urging the business community to register with the City Council before occupying areas designed for vending, the statement said.
