BERBICIAN Zaman Khan ended the 2016 Flying Ace Cycle Club’s (FACC) cycling season on a high note last Sunday, winning the club’s 28-mile road race in convincing fashion. The event, which was opened to FACC members only, saw Khan and other juvenile riders benefit from a five-minute head-start after being sent on their way by Guyana Police Force (GPF) `B’ Division Coordinator of the Police Community Relations Department, Assistant Superintendent Keith Williams, at 09:15hrs at Tacama Turn, Stanleytown, New Amsterdam, Berbice, from where the participants of the GPF `B’ Division-sponsored event proceeded to the Rose Hall Town Arch before turning back for the finish line at Main and Alexander Streets, New Amsterdam.
Relishing his five-minute advantage, Khan, the national juvenile road race champion, rode at a steady pace and captured all six prime prizes that were on offer and crossed the finish line unchallenged.
Second was Curtis Dey, while veteran cyclists Sybrone Fernandes and Samuel Mootoo placed third and fourth respectively.
By winning the overall event, Khan automatically won the juvenile category ahead of Rakheel Gordon, Ralph Seenarine and Alex Burnett in that order.
The event was coordinated by the club’s coach Randolph Roberts.
Trophies for the event, which was held under the theme `Youth Cycling Against Crime’, were donated by Acting Commander `B’ Division, Senior Superintendent Errol Watts, Senior Superintendent Kevin Adonis, Superintendent Budnarine Persaud, Assistant Superintendent Keith Williams, Inspector Clay Rose, businessman Sherwin Ford, Crystal Net Internet Café, the Foster Family and Naziam Khan among others.
