Guyana attend child labour confab in Brazil

GUYANA recently participated in the Regional Initiative for Latin America and the Caribbean Free of Child Labour meeting, held in Fortaleza, Brazil.
Vickram Mohabir, Senior Guidance and Counselling Officer of the Ministry of Education, attended the sessions, held from November 28 to December 2, 2016.

Co-organised by the International Labour Organisation and the Brazilian Co-operation Agency, the meeting was convened to identify joint action between the Education and Labour sectors of participating countries, advance efforts to reduce the incidence of child labour, and protect forms of labour permitted for adolescents.

Principal of the Cyril Potter College of Education (CPCE), Viola Rowe, also attended a two-day forum for Higher Education and Teacher Training in Latin America and the Caribbean, held in Buenos Aires, Argentina. The two-day summit was hosted by the World Bank, in collaboration with the Organisation of Ibero-American States for Education, Science and Culture (OEI), and was held from December 2-3, a statement from the Ministry of Education has said.

The main objective of the forum was to create a Regional Centre for Teacher Development.
