SOESDYKE Falcons suffered mixed fortunes last Saturday when the Guyana Football Federation/NAMILCO Thunderbolt Flour Power national Under-17 League continued at the Grove Playfield, East Bank Demerara. In their first match on Saturday, the Soesdyke side went down by a 1-3 margin to Circuit Ville Jaguars, but bounced back in game two and edged Kuru Kururu Warriors 2-1.
When Soesdyke and Circuit Ville met in a first-round fixture of the two-round league, the former won by a huge 10-1 margin, but the organisers subsequently awarded the game to the latter as Soesdyke was found guilty of fielding a player – Kelsey Benjamin – who is a registered player of the Georgetown Football Club.
In that game, Benjamin had scored a hat-trick in Soesdyke Falcons’ victory.
However, on Saturday last, Circuit Ville made their intentions known from as early as the 19th minute as Prince Forde opened the score line. The score was doubled 20 minutes later by Issiah Dodson.
With a comfortable 2-0 lead going into the second period, the jaguars came out clawing at their opposition and tightened their stranglehold two minutes into the second period as Desmond Chester found the back of Falcons’ net.The Falcons, however, pulled one back as Dannet McLennon was on target in the 74th minute.
Playing in the opening game of the double-header card and cognizant of the fact that they had to give up their win to Circuit Ville, Soesdyke was placed under tremendous pressure by Kuru Kururu warriors who took the lead in the 25th minute of play through a Ricardo Grant goal.
Behind by one goal going into the second session, Soesdyke’s captain Tyrone Khan levelled the score in the 73rd minute.
Three minutes later, Junior Williams gave Falcons the lead for the first time in the match.
The two-round league will continue on Saturday with another double-header at the same venue.
