THE Guyana Football Federation (GFF) yesterday signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the country’s oldest Daily newspapers, when the Guyana Chronicle was chosen as the official ‘Football Print Publication Partner’ in all promotional material and fora, controlled by the GFF.The simple signing ceremony of the MOU was done at the Federation’s Boardroom with the GFF’s President, Wayne Forde, and Editor in Chief of the Guyana Chronicle, Nigel Williams, affixing their signatures to the 2-year deal in the presence of other officials of the two entities.
The partnership aims to establish an open editorial in the Sunday edition of the Chronicle for perspectives on the ‘Beautiful Game’ as well as a twice-weekly Infomercial Strips during the football season and once weekly during the out of season period.
Forde,in highlighting the benefits of partnering with The Guyana Chronicle, gave an overview of the deal before the signing, ”Today marks a symbolic accomplishment for the GFF. Football over the past years has not enjoyed the opportunity to have its programmes and plans strategically located within the network of our Print Media and we saw it fit to engage the attention of the Guyana Chronicle, which is traditionally a strong newspaper, but I think with the presence of football, will get even stronger”.
“Over the next couple of years we are going to be very active in the development of the Sport in laying a lasting and sustainable foundation. One of the key objectives is to bring the Guyanese Public along with us for the ride. The only way we could achieve this is by having our plans and works properly reported. We want to own the narrative, and the opportunity that Chronicle has extended to the GFF will help in that regard.”
“ On behalf of the Executive, our 22 members, the fraternity and fans of the GFF, this is a ground-breaking opportunity for football and I am very encouraged that it is going to benefit both the GFF and Chronicle’s future.”
In his remarks,Mr Williams thanked the GFF for the opportunity to work with the Federation in assisting to promote football, ”We are in a phase of rebranding and changing the face of the Chronicle,so we see this as a great opportunity where we can reach out to the young people who play the sport as well as the general public. Football as you know, we call it the ‘grassroots’ sport, and we recognize that as a state-owned newspaper we can play a big role in promoting the game and helping young people to find alternatives rather than getting involved in crime and other deviant behaviors.
“We will do all that is required to honour this agreement and to ensure that whatever we signed on to,we meet it in both letter and spirit. Thanks for the opportunity to strategically promote football and the development of sport in general. On behalf of the Board of Directors and staff, thanks and I hope this will be a fruitful and beneficial agreement.”
