‘Together Possible’

THE vision behind the World Wildlife Fund (WWF) is very direct: build a future in which humans live in harmony with nature. WWF wants to protect the environment and its inhabitants and believes in the “Together Possible” motto.

One of the most important objectives of WWF-Guianas’ work in Guyana is that of preserving the biodiversity of the Guiana Shield with a people-centred approach, at all levels and in different ways.

Through empowerment and education; through programmes and projects (such as the Opt-In Readiness Project that was launched on Monday, October 17, 2016 with the NRDDB in Annai, North Rupununi); through sustainable resource use; and through conservation practices that ensure our wildlife, ecosystems, and ecosystem services are protected and perpetuated.

This is why WWF-Guianas and its local office in Guyana have always been partnering with the Government, international partners, agencies, local NGOs, local and indigenous communities, civil society and other stakeholders to spearhead a coordinated effort towards a true Green Development for our country.

The Guiana Shield, of which Guyana is a fundamental part, is in fact the most intact forested region on earth and its status of “special eco-region” is acknowledged all over the world.

As His Excellency Brigadier David Granger, President of the Cooperative Republic of Guyana said a few months ago at the IVth International Congress on Biodiversity of the Guiana Shield, “the Shield plays an essential role in the survival of Planet Earth.”

Of course, this fundamental intention is achievable only as a result of effective plans, concrete actions and through information and knowledge-sharing. And thanks to the active involvement of all Guyanese people.

We are thus especially happy to announce that every second and fourth Sunday each month, right here in the Guyana Chronicle Sunday Edition, you will be able to read and understand more about WWF-Guianas and its work in the Guiana Shield Region and specifically in Guyana on climate change, conservation, and wildlife.

Because remember: #TogetherPossible
