CHAIRMAN of the Guyana Power and Light Company (GPL), Mr. Robert Badal, has said the position of Chief Executive Officer of that entity will soon be filled, as the company seeks to improve its overall performance.Badal recently told reporters at a media briefing hosted at the Pegasus Hotel in Kingston, Georgetown that
Acting Chief Executive Officer Renford Homer is ‘stretched’ (overworked) and the position has to be filled.

According to a vacancy advertised in the media, the new CEO will direct, administer and coordinate the internal operational activities of the company in accordance with policies, goals and objectives established by the Board of Directors.

The advert has said that the successful candidate will lead and direct the activities of the divisions of the company, including those in regard to operations, customer services, human resources, information technology, loss reduction, finance, and projects.

“The Chief Executive Officer shall promote positive relations with internal and external stakeholders, including the shareholder (the Government of Guyana), customers, regulators, the private sector and the public,” the advertisement noted.

The successful candidate is required to have a professional degree in electrical or mechanical engineering from a recognised university, along with experience at the executive management level in a large electric utility business or other industrial business.

“A master’s degree or higher professional degree in electrical or mechanical engineering, or finance or business administration, plus 10 years’ relevant and proven experience would be an advantage,” the advertisement said.

Colin Welch, the former acting Chief Executive Officer of the Guyana Power & Light Company, was earlier this year fingered in a questionable Chinese contract, and in one case had his qualifications come under review.
