THE Ministry of Social Protection is seeking to establish an Interim Management Committee (IMC) to manage the affairs of the Paradise Multipurpose Co-op Society Limited for a period of six months.According to the Minister within the Ministry of Social Protection, Keith Scott, the ministry had received a series of complaints from both factions in the Paradise, East Coast village on how the co-op society was being operated.
He explained that the ministry recently embarked on reorganisation of the co-op, however, more information on that will later be revealed.
“The ministry is merely seeking to tighten and put things into place; we are reacting to these complaints in the course of our work,” he said.
Minister Scott posited, “Within the six months of IMC, we hope to have records updated, to get a list of [the] membership and ultimately have an election to put a proper, functioning and representative body. We have no special interest in running the organisation. He also added that it is the first time action is being taken in a serious way, looking at all co-ops in Guyana.
Minister Scott said complaints were also lodged about persons being robbed within both factions of the Paradise village, in relation to houselots. As a result, persons began attacking each other.
