DaSILVA Optical on Thursday expanded its services to Parika, East Bank Essequibo, as it seeks to meet the needs of residents there as well as residents of Bartica and Wakenaam who usually travel to Geogetown to get their eyes tested.The newly opened outlet is located at 298 Highway Parika, in the Lens building, and is managed by Dr Shannon DaSilva.

Speaking at the launch, Dr Da Silva said that she always wanted to follow in her father’s footsteps, pointing out that she began her journey by qualifying herself overseas.
The services provided by the business include eye examinations, glaucoma testing, progressive lenses, repairs and adjustments, diabetic retinopathy testing, transitional lenses and sun glasses and contact lenses.
It has also created employment opportunities for four persons, namely an optometrist, an assistant optometrist, a lab technician and a janitor.
Dr Da Silva said more persons will be employed as the outlet expands operations.
Public Health Minister, Dr George Norton, who was present at the launch congratulated the Da Silva family for expanding their business to cater for rural residents as well as for their outstanding service in the field of eyecare.
“The Da Silva family has started this business 61 years ago in Guyana and they continue to give quality service to the communities,” Dr Norton said, as he pointed out that the younger generation in the family has kept the legacy of excellence alive through innovation.
Da Silva Optical is one of the oldest optical services in Guyana with operations also in Georgetown, Linden, and Berbice.
