Gunmen attacked and robbed a female employee of Survival Supermarket on Friday afternoon, while she was in a taxi at a traffic light at the junction of Sherriff Street, Georgetown. The incident occurred at approximately 17:00hrs and according to reports, two men snatched the company’s payroll after tracing the woman from a city bank.
One of the men reportedly gun-butted the woman, demanding that she hand over the money before making good his escape. At the time of the robbery, the woman was returning to the supermarket at the Sherriff Street location.
This newspaper understands that the company would usually utilise its own taxi service, but was forced to use another service since none of their own was available. Reports indicate that the taxi driver is in custody as investigations continue.
