STACY Hamilton (44) of Texas, United States of America appeared on Monday before City Magistrate Fabayo Azore charged with two counts of conspiracy to commit a felony.Hamilton pleaded guilty to both charges – the first of which stated that between January 1 and August 12 at Georgetown, with intent to defraud, she conspired with persons known or unknown to fake a Guyanese passport with the name Tara Maughn.

The other charge stated that on August 12, at Port Lethem, she presented a fake passport to an immigration officer.

The prosecution contended that Hamilton was a wanted fugitive from her homeland since she had pending matter before the court in the USA.

Police Prosecutor Corporal Deniro Jones explained that the foreign national entered Guyana on January 1, via Cheddi Jagan International Airport. While in the country she met with persons to forge a passport in favor of Tara Maughn.

Jones noted on August 12, Hamilton was stopped at the Lethem Check point by immigration officer Stephen Williams after she submitted the fake passport.

The officer confronted the woman and she confessed that she had bought the passport for $1,500USD from a man. Hamilton further disclosed that she had gotten the passport to travel in Brazil.

Attorney-at-law, Paul Fung-a-Fat stated that Hamilton has been living in Guyana for more than a year at Grove, East Bank Demerara. The lawyer further disclosed that US police officials had already made contact with Hamilton and also the woman had an open ticket back to her homeland.

The Magistrate in her ruling considered the woman’s guilty plea while placing weight on the seriousness of the offences.

The US national was sentenced to 18 month on each of the two counts of conspiracy to commit a felony. These will run concurrently. After serving her jail time she will be deported.
