Two days to go, nine races, 85 entries, over $30M up for grabs
WITH two days to go before the 10th annual Jumbo Jet Auto Sales and Racing Stables-organised Guyana Cup horserace meet gets underway at the Port Mourant Turf Club, Corentyne, Berbice, horse owners/trainers are eyeing the cash prizes up for grabs during the one-day event.At the close of registration last Monday, 85 horses were registered to contest the nine events on the day’s card which has at stake over $30M in cash prizes.
The feature event for `A’ Class horses over 1800m will see the winner take home a whopping $4.5M.
Among the animals registered for this event are: Kings Knight, CP Got Even, Just Call Me Boss, Princess She’s Not, Golden Blue Echo, Spit Fire, Plum Plum and Lady Budapest.
Witchy Poo, Red Rocket, Isn’t She Charming and Firing Line are among those that have been registered for the 1600m event for three-year-old Guyana and West Indies-bred horses.
The winner will be rewarded with $2.4M.
Super Cat, Royal Jet, Perfect Gold, King Stanley, Awesome Cash and Flash Again are some of the horses registered for the two-year-olds 1100m event which has a winning prize of $600 000.
The winning jockeys in the three abovementioned events will earn an extra $50 000 reward.
Other events on the day’s programme include a 1300m race for `E’ and Lower horses with the winner carting off $800 000.
Horses classified `H’ and Lower will do battle over 1400m for $500 000.
An 1100m race is also on the day’s programme and is open to horses classified `J & K’ and Lower with the winner earning $350 000.
Horses classified `L’ will contest a 1000m race and the winner will receive $250 000.
Trophies and other incentives will be at stake for the top jockey ($50 000 plus trophy) as well as the runner-up jockey. The top stable and champion trainer will also be rewarded.
Apart from the cash prizes for the winners of each event, trophies and cash prizes are also on offer for the other top finishers of each event.
The day’s activity will be conducted under the Rules of the Guyana Horse Racing Authority (GHRA).
