OVERSEAS- based Guyanese,Calvin Ming, completed another podium-filled weekend for Team Pelfrey as F1600 action continued in Pittsburgh in the United States. In Qualifying on Saturday, the Guyanese finished just 0.193 seconds off teammate and pole -sitter Phillippe Denes, and almost half a second ahead of his other teammate Kaylen Frederick.
The first race of the day on Saturday saw close, keen racing with the leaders changing almost at every lap before Kaylen was pipped to the flag by less than a nose by team K-Hill Motorsports, Neil Verhagen ,; Calvin finished .1 of a second behind his teammate for third place.
Race- two was no different as the Pelfrey boys seemed to know the track like the back of their hands, the lead interchanging several times again before the end of the race.
However, just about the halfway point, Calvin went into the lead and held on to same, right down to the exit of the last corner, after which Neil drafted in his slipstream and beat him to the finish line, by a quarter of a front wing.
“The last lap I was trying to stay ahead but Neil got a big run at the end and got me at the line,” Ming told the F1600 series media, adding. “I think it was a good race from everyone and I think it was a fair race,”
Race- three, however, finished behind the pace- car which had to come out on two occasions, due to accidents. However, the Team Pelfrey drivers finished in P1 (Frederick), P2 (Denes) and P5 (Ming)
