WEST Indies skipper Jason Holder has praised the heroics of all-rounder Roston Chase in helping to rescue the team from a dire situation on Wednesday. The regional team were looking down the barrel of a second straight defeat after the visitors held a 304-run first-innings lead and found themselves reduced to 48-4 in pursuit.
Chase, however, struck a determined unbeaten 137, which combined with other contributions from Jermaine Blackwood, Shane Dowrich and Holder ensured that Indians had to settle for a draw.
Holder believes the knock more than anything else showed the player’s battling qualities.
“He is a character. People don’t know Roston off the field but he is a fighter. I played all my cricket throughout my entire life with Roston – junior cricket, Under-13, U-15, U-17, U-19, West Indies A and now West Indies senior team. I have honestly enjoyed playing with Roston because, the character he is, and you know the way he plays cricket,” Holder said.
“I think a lot of credit must be given to Roston. To come in his second Test match and play the way he did, in these circumstances, full credit to him. I just hope he continues in this vein. He knows that this is just the start and hopefully he can have a long-lasting career for the West Indies.” (Sportsmax.com)
