A MAN, who is so far unidentified, lost his life after a container truck crushed his head Monday night at the junction of Avenue of the Republic and Croal Street, Georgetown.The man, who is believed to be between 30-45 years old and of Indian descent, was wearing a blue jersey, short pants and white sneakers. A sky blue baseball cap was found next to his body.

When the Guyana Chronicle arrived on the scene, the body was already and transported to the Georgetown Public Hospital. The John Fernandes container truck involved in the accident was also removed to allow the free flow of traffic.

The accident reportedly occurred at about 19:00hrs.

According to eyewitnesses, the man was about to cross the road during heavy traffic and failed to adhere to the ‘no crossing’ sign of the traffic signal and was pinned underneath the oncoming truck.

He was killed on the spot. His skull was crushed and his left foot was decapitated.
The body of the yet unidentified man is at the Georgetown Public Hospital mortuary and police investigations are ongoing.
