… Back to the drawing board for Christianburg/Wismar

TWENTY-FOUR hours after winning their inaugural Digicel National Schools Football Championships, Chase Academic Foundation’s head coach Vurlon Mills has lauded his side’s temperament during that tense final.Chase, who won 1-0 through a Job Caesar’s free kick and ended the dynasty of four-time champions Wismar/Christianburg Secondary, stuck to their game plan according to Mills.
“This year they came out and everything that we had practised and everything that we have done throughout the season, we have seen it come to pass in the final. I think we stuck to our game plan in terms of how we were to play and the players executed that very well,” he said.
“Christianburg were the team to beat after winning it four times, in six finals,” the National player and coach continued while noting that having followed the opposition’s progress, Sunday’s final was their best in the tournament.
He had words of encouragement for the lads of the Linden-based school, saying “Keep your heads up, keep encouraging yourselves, keep (being) disciplined because there are some very good young talents in Christianburg. So stay together as a team and next year come stronger again.”
Captain of the Chase side, Jeremy Garrett spoke on behalf his charges saying, “It’s a great feeling winning this title today. The team came out, the guys played hard. I really want to express my gratitude to my teammates. Really and truly, I love how these guys played today and they encourage me to play again for Chase next year.”
“This win puts me ahead greatly (in my football career), said Job Caesar who scored the winning goal.

Back to the drawing board for Christianburg/Wismar
Meanwhile the defeated four-time champions Wismar/Christianburg Secondary are already in ‘analysis’ mode in an attempt to better their 2017 tournament campaign.
Coach Dellon Peters confirmed, “This is we now going back to the drawing board and trying to work things out and better things next year. Bettering it meaning winning the championship again because we made it to final six consecutive years and that’s unprecedented in all parts of the country and probably the Caribbean.”
He contended, however, that the foul which caused the free kick for the winning goal, was not in fact a foul but nonetheless he respected the referee’s decision.
“We love football, the school is a football-oriented school,” the coach admitted and they will return stronger in the next instalment.
