A traditional August 1 beach outing turned tragic for a Yakasari, Black Bush family after a nine-year-old member dies in an accident at the Number 63 Beach.

Dead is Daniel Mootoosammy of Lot 9 Yakasari, Black Bush Polder. The boy at the time was with his two elder brothers Simon 10, David, 11, and a cousin Mark Persaud.

According to reports, around 13:10hrs, a Jet Ski rode into the vicinity where the children were playing and after it passed the lad was not seen. An alarm was raised and about 30 minutes into a search, he was found in an unconscious state, submerged face down in the water.

The child was rushed to the Skeldon Hospital where doctors tried frantically
to save his life, but to no avail.

A police source told the Guyana Chronicle that there was no physical evidence that the child was hit by the ski.

The boy’s sister Vanessa Permaul, 20, said she took the children for the outing and was eating at the time while keeping an eye on them as they play. “I did eating at the time when me see the Jet Ski pass and when me watch back after it gone me nah see Daniel so me rush to the water and start looking fuh he, when we find him, he did alive so we carry him to the hospital.”

The police have launched an investigation into the incident and have arrested the owner of the Jet Ski, who remains in custody assisting with investigations.
