IT was a Hollywood style shootout at the Frankie Boodram Wallerfield, but not for the Jamaican Doug Gore, who often goes by the nickname Hollywood, but rather for the Guyanese, Kristian JeffreyGore was gored by reigning Caribbean Group Four Champion Jeffrey, who piped him to pole during yesterday’s qualifying session of the Second Round of the Caribbean Motor Racing Championship (CMRC), in Trinidad.
Posting a 39.047 time, the reigning sportsman of the year left it all on the three quarter mile stretch, in Arima blowing away the Jamaican by more than half a second and setting the scene for a tense race today.
“I actually thought the time wasn’t fast enough for Doug [Gore] because the rumours that he was doing 38.5 or something like that so while I was out there, I still thought I was in second position but I managed to get pole and hope we can bring the time down some more today.”
Trinidad’s Kristian Bourne will start third on the grid alongside countryman Gerard Carrington who had obvious problems.
On the two wheel drive end of things, Barbadian Mark Maloney (Mazda Rx3) will head the pile thanks to his (40.125) time with Trinidad’s Frankie Boodram and his Renault Megane posting 41.165. Countryman, Richard Mohammed will start third ahead of Guyana’s Mohan Rangasammy.
At the group three end, Trinidad’s David Lyons will be on pole in his Suzuki swift after posting 42.586 while 2016 point leader Paul Vieira and his RX7 start second ahead of Trinidad’s Ronald Wortman and Barbados’ Steve King.
Guyanese Afraz Allie will start 6th while Danny Persaud will start at the back of the pack after suffering alternator damage.
Meanwhile, on the group two front, Marc Gill (44.741) secured pole ahead of countryman Mark Williams and Barbadian Mark Thompson with Guyana’s Shan Seejattan fourth.
Rameez Mohammed, Kemal Rahman and Nick Ramsaran all suffered mechanical issues before qualifying.

Vieiras run Rampant
An all Vieira front three will take the grid on the super-sport end of things as they utterly dominated the qualifying day.
Steven, the eldest will lead the pack aboard his Kawasaki ZX6-R after posting a 41.955 time but is only one tenth of a second faster than Elliot, whose fastest time aboard the same model of bike was 42.076.

“We had some difficulty with the bike and with power but Andy Phang sorted it out and he did a very good job. Today will be a race because my two cousins (Elliot and Matthew) are very fast; I’m hoping to get in front and just tuck my head down and go,” the multi-time Caribbean champion said.
Matthew Vieira’s 42.311 was good enough for third as Dominic De Leon (Trinidad) and Brook Miller (Barbados) took fourth and fifth ahead of Guyana’s Heeranand Boodram sixth and Kevin Persaud 7th.
