THE Presidential Guards emerged victorious when the Guyana Police Force (GPF) held its annual drill competition on Friday.The Presidential Guards, which were the crowd favourites, stole the show with their swift moves, which drew loud applause.
In the male category, three teams competed, and the Presidential Guards copped first place with 93 points. The first runner-up was ‘A’ Division with 85.6 points, and the second runner-up was the Tactical Services Unit (TSU) with 85 points.

Female ranks also participated. In the female category, ‘B’ Division placed first with 80.6 points, while the first runner-up went to Special Constabulary with 79 points

The winners were announced by retired Officer Franklin Mingo after hours of drills’ display by scores of ranks, who were immaculately dressed, performing in blistering sunshine.
He told the large gathering of members of the GPF and the public that the judges placed keen attention on drills and at the same time observed the word of command, which was required, personal drill, and mode of dress.
Mingo was impressed with the flair of drills performed by the squads, and congratulated them for the exhibition.

The Best Female Instructor went to the Presidential Guards with 20 points, while the first runner-up was the TSU with 18 points. ‘A’ Division emerged as the second runner-up with 17.6 points.
The winning teams as well as individual winners received prizes.

According to Assistant Commissioner (Operations) Christopher Griffith, the GPF annual drill competition was initiated by the late Commissioner of Police Laurie Lewis and was designed to instill pride and discipline in the ranks.
The event took place at the TSU Drill Square, Eve Leary, Georgetown, and was well attended by the top brass of the force and other invitees.
