THE Childcare and Protection Agency (CPA) will be launching a documentary along with some television and radio advertisements this coming week as part of an awareness campaign to build public knowledge about child protection and the type of work carried out by the agency.According to a release, there are many myths surrounding the reasons why children are taken into alternative care, but the reality is, many parents are failing to provide adequate care and protection for their children.
“Domestic violence, alcoholism, substance abuse and mental health issues, are key factors that add to the dysfunction that affects many households nowadays; and many parents do not realise the effect their behaviour is having on their children.
“With all the pressures of life, some parents may be oblivious to the fact that they are suffering from mental health issues and therefore do not seek the assistance and advice they so readily need. Unfortunately, children bear the brunt of whatever problems their parents are going through, which, in severe cases can have an impact on their development and adversely affect them for life,” the release said.
The campaign will commence with a 25-minute documentary on NCN at 09.30 hrs this morning and the advertisements will be aired next week during ‘Guyana Today’ and on 98.1 and VOG.
