Two teens rescued from trafficking in Baramita

TWO teenagers are currently in protective care, following a Trafficking in Person (TIP) rescue operation on Wednesday in the Barima-Waini Region. A woman is also in police custom.After receiving reports of a suspected case of Human Trafficking, the Guyana Police Force (GPF) conducted a rescue operation on Wednesday in the community of Baramita, and the alleged victims were placed into protective custody.

According to confirmed reports, one of the teenagers is the daughter of a family friend. The woman is, however, claiming that the other teenager is her daughter but up to press time, the police was still trying to confirm this.

The Ministry of Social Protection TIP Unit has since been providing psychological support to the suspected victims.

Last Wednesday, Ranks of the Police Force descended on Rio Inn following reports that several young women were held against their will. The police removed 10 female Dominican Republic nationals and one Guyanese woman from the night club as they continue intense post-raid investigations.
