THE Ministry of Communities has confirmed in a statement issued on Tuesday that approval has been granted for Regional Executive Officer (REO) of Region 6, Dr. Veerasammy Ramayya, to proceed on 14 days’ vacation leave, effective from July 18, 2016 to July 30, 2016; and resume duties on August 2, 2016.In the Tuesday edition of this publication, Region Six Vice Chairman Mr Dennis De Roop is reported to have alleged that Dr Ramayya had ceased performing the duties of REO without formally resigning from the position.

He reportedly told reporters in a press briefing at the Regional Chairman’s Office at Vryman’s Erven in New Amsterdam: “The region got a setback now, we having a little confusion: the REO has left; I must say he walk off the job. There is no correspondence to say he is on leave (and) there is no approval of leave for him. I am of the opinion that he voluntary walk off the job. I was made to understand he gone overseas; however, we [Region 6 Administration] (are) yet to receive a correspondence from the Ministry of Communities about the issue.”

The Communities Ministry statement made it clear that Dr Ramayya did not, in any way, abandon his post or walk off the job. “He proceeded on leave, having applied for, and received, the requisite approval. A formal letter of approval was issued by the ministry, and a copy was dispatched to Regional Chairman David Armogan,” the statement noted.
