TUCVILLE are the champions of the Petra-organised Ministry of Public Health’s sponsored Stop Gender-Based Violence football competition which concluded on Sunday evening. The teams could not find the decider in normal time and had to resort to penalties to hoist the championship trophy at the softball ground on Carifesta Ave.
Tucville opened the scoring in normal time through Delon Williams in the 8th minute and then added their second just two minutes later through Kareem Knights for what seemed to be a routine afternoon.
However, North East La Penitence had other plans as Delon Hult in the 18th minute ensured that his side progressed along the path of redemption.
Calvin Moore in the 35th levelled it up in a crazy second half but the side could not secure their third to seal the game, sending it into penalties where Tucville won 2-1.
Meanwhile, Sparta Boss made light work of Broad Street 10-3 in the third-place playoff.
Gregory ‘Jackie Chan’ Richardson scored four times in the slaughter of the Broad Street side, in the 4th, 14th, 32nd and 33 minutes while Jerome Richardson scored a hat-trick with strikes in the 1st, 16th and 27th.
Devon Millington’s brace in the 2nd and 5th, coupled with Roberto Osbourne’s 40th minute strike, ensured that there would be no coming back from that deficit.
On the opposing end, Leon Richardson’s 24th and 39th minute brace along Jimmy Gravesande in the 15th was not able to match up the goal-scoring antics of the Sparta side.
Meanwhile, Dennis Edward of Tucville was adjudged the most valuable player while the highest goalscorer of the tournament was Sparta’s Gregory Richardson who earned a gold chain from Junior’s Jewellery.
