Sisters allegedly raped by stepfather

– Beaten, thrown out of house; mother arrested

THREE sisters, ages four, seven and 10 were allegedly raped by their stepfather during the course of the week and according to reports, it is believed that they were raped multiple times. The suspect, who resides on the East Bank of Berbice (EBB), lives with the mother and a few of her 14 children. The couple is said to have one child together.
According to information reaching this newspaper, the girls were found sleeping in the vicinity of the Edingburgh seawall, EBB, around 08:45hrs Thursday morning by School Welfare Officers.
The stepfather is now wanted for questioning by the police while the mother of the girls has been arrested. Commander of ‘B’ Division, Ian Amsterdam, said the girls revealed that they were sexually molested and often beaten by their stepfather.
This newspaper understands that the 10-year-old revealed that they were beaten and thrown out of the house, while the eldest of the trio said she was also beaten in the head with a hammer. After they were told to leave, the girls reportedly spent the night on the seawalls.
They were then taken to the hospital where a medical examination was done and confirmed they had indeed been sexually assaulted. The commander said the police will leave no stone unturned to find the suspect.
Meanwhile, the police are also working closely with the Child Care and Protection Agency and other agencies as it relates to the safety of the children. The girls are currently hospitalised.
