THE partly decomposed body of a 47-year-old labourer attached to the Guyana Sugar Corporation (GuySuCo) was found hanging from his bedroom ceiling, in what appeared to be an act of suicide.The lifeless body of Mohanlall Udairaj of Hope-West, Enmore, East Coast Demerara, was discovered on Thursday morning by relatives who visited the house to collect documents.
His sister-in-law, Tuladai Raj, explained to this newspaper that several calls to Udairaj went unanswered within the space of Sunday afternoon to Wednesday evening.
As such, relatives decided to visit the house, where they found the doors and windows opened.
“We had to collect the phone bill from my brother-in-law and also check on him…so now when me and my son reach the place things looked , because the front door and windows were open, but nobody was answering,” bemoaned the distressed Raj.
Subsequently, they made their way upstairs when the gruesome discovery was made. It appeared as though the man had committed the act a few days ago.
According to the sister-in-law, Udairaj was reportedly grieving since he and his wife separated about four months ago.
“Some days when he gets home from work he would come across to our house and talk about how everything is over and he has no hope left and so…we tried talking to him a lot, but he would still say things like that,” the woman said.
Following the separation, his three children also moved out to live with their mother. This, she explained, had added to his already depressed state.
His nephew, Heeralall , said that two weeks ago, the man had said he was contemplating suicide, but he told him that there was still hope.
