THE Blairmont Post Office now has a shed and seating accommodation for pensioners, thanks to Berbice businessman, Nowrang Persaud. The facilities were officially handed over yesterday, and among those present at the simple presentation ceremony were: Guyana Post Office Corporation (GPOC) Postmistress General, Karen Brown; GPOC Area Manager, Balkarran Kissoon; and People’s Progressive Party/Civic (PPP/C) Member of Parliament, Harry Gill.

Persaud said he was moved to do what he did, as he couldn’t bear to see senior citizens standing around, come rain or sun month after month, to collect their old age pension and NIS benefits. He said that at one occasion a pensioner even fainted, having been standing in the line for hours on end in the broiling sun.

The businessman stated that he hopes that his donation may act as a catalyst for similar community enhancement projects throughout Guyana.
