WINNERS of the recently concluded Guyana Olympics Association (GOA) Open Doubles Badminton Tournament, and participants of the GOA Olympic Day Run/Walk/Jog activity, were last Saturday presented with their respective awards at a simple presentation ceremony at the Olympic House.The ladies doubles winners were Priyanna Ramdhani and Ambika Ramraj, while runners-up were team Ayanna Watson and Emelia Ramdhani, third place was shared by teams Kara Abrams/Wonita Yang and Gabriella Pertab/Priyanka Shivnauth.
Championing the men’s doubles for the winning medals were the Sunburst Narayan Ramdhani and Jonathan Mangra team.
Second place went to Gokarn Ramdhani and Nicholas Ali, third place tie to Ronald Chang Yuen/Avinash Odit and Darrell Carpenay/Marlon Chung.
Narayan and Priyana went on to team up and win the mixed doubles, where Jonathan Mangra and Ambika Ramraj took second place while Cecil Abrams his partner Kara Abrams, and Darrell Carpenay and his partner Ayanna Watson, shared third place.
A number of special prizes were also doled out with William Holder receiving a prize for Past National Champion, and Gabriella Pertab taking home the prize for Most Improved Player. Fardeen Alli won a special .Upcoming Player’ prize.
Receiving certificates for the Guyana Olympisc Association (GOA) Olympic Day Run were: Gokarn Ramdhani, Emelia Ramdhani, Narayan Ramdhani, Priyanna Ramdhani, Fardeen Alli, Jonnedd Taylor, Ariel Haynes, Gail Haynes, Medharishi Ramdhani, Susan Ramdhani, Ayanna Watson, Kara Abrams and Cecil Abrams.
GOA president, K. A. Juman-Yassin, and Guyana Badminton Association (GBA) president Gokarn Ramdhani were present at the ceremony and made encouraging remarks, while closing comments were made by Director of Sport Christopher Jones.
On behalf of the GBA, Gokarn expressed gratitude to GOA, NSC, SUNBURST, BANKS DIH, as well as to the parents and players for making the event a success. The ceremony also included a musical presentation by Ronald Chang Yuen.
