FORMER Trinidad Prime Minister Patrick Manning, who died on Saturday, had an uncompromising belief in Caribbean integration, Opposition Leader Bharrat Jagdeo has said.Jagdeo said he worked with Mr Manning for many years, as part of advancing bilateral relations between Guyana and Trinidad and Tobago as well as at the Caribbean Community (CARICOM) level.
“I grew to admire his uncompromising belief in Caribbean integration, and supported many of his initiatives in pursuit of closer economic and other ties between countries of the Caribbean Region, particularly in the areas of health and security,” Jagdeo stated.
Jagdeo described Manning as a friend and colleague, as well as a formidable leader. “His legacy remains testimony to his service to the people of Trinidad and Tobago and the advances of the wider Caribbean Region.
“His passing is a loss for the Caribbean Region as a whole,” Jagdeo stated.
