Two men who robbed fellow passenger Shan Goasu, 47, of cash, jewellery and other items on Sunday were arrested through diligent work by the police.
Goasu was heading to Georgetown in a taxi which had two other persons. While at Number 2 Village, West Coast Berbice, the driver drove the taxi along a lonely road, and one of the suspects choked him and relieved him of one gold chain, one gold ring, G$300,000.00, one iPhone, a passport and 2,500 in Suriname currency.
The robbery of the Regent Street, Georgetown resident occurred on 14:15 hrs, and it was promptly reported at the Blairmont Police Station. And the police, acting upon information, arrested two men at Church View International Hotel, Main Street, New Amsterdam.
A search was conducted on the men during which G$300,000, 2,500 in Suriname currency, one iPhone, a passport and a bag containing clothing which belongs to Goasu were found on them.
