CONSTABLE 22761 Ishaan Caines was reportedly driving a vehicle to Linden on Saturday when, at about 15:15hrs, he lost control of the vehicle in the vicinity of Bamia, on the Linden Soesdyke Highway, and died in the resulting crash.
This is the second fatal accident to have occurred in this area in the past two months.
“Information received (is) that motor car PPP 7936 was going south along the eastern side of the road, travelling at a fast rate of speed. While going, the driver lost control of the said car, which turned turtle and ended up on the eastern side of the road on its hood,” Senior Superintendent Calvin Brutus, Commander of the police division which oversees Linden, related.
Caines, from Coveden, East Bank Demerara, was based at the Mackenzie Police Station in Linden, and was expected to report for duty on Saturday night.
A passenger of a mini bus which arrived on the scene moments after the accident reported that Caines was hurled some 30 feet from the wrecked car. He received several injuries and was rushed to the Linden Hospital Complex, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
Bamia, approximately quarter of a mile from Linden, has, over the past years, seen a number of accidents. The previous last fatality to have occurred there was on May 2, 2016, when Rawl Adams was killed. The situation in regard to Adams’s accident was similar to what occurred on Saturday, as it was raining at the time and his vehicle also turned turtle.
