QUICK action by ranks of the police force and by public-spirited persons, led to the arrest of two bandits who robbed the GST supermarket, Aubrey Barker Road, South Ruimveldt, yesterday.Speaking to the Guyana Chronicle, one of the staffers of the entity explained that around noon, four men entered the supermarket and requested credit; however, one of the men drew a gun and forced everyone to lie on the floor.
“My heart was in my hand when de man took out the gun… after he did that he ask for money and we cellphones,” exclaimed the employee.
After carting off an unknown sum of cash and other valuables, the bandits made good their escape, but were followed by police and public-spirited citizens who were in the vicinity at the time of the robbery.
During the pursuit, the bandits reportedly exchanged gunshots with the police before they were cornered, leading to two of the bandits being caught.
However, the other two men made off with the cash, phone cards, cellular phones, jewellery and other items. The hunt continues for the remaining two culprits. [Navendra Seoraj]
