GABF, YBG finalise teams for CBC championships

THE Guyana Amateur Basketball Federation (GABF) and Youth Basketball Guyana (YBG) were tasked with selecting the players for the upcoming U-16 Caribbean Basketball Championships (CBC), set to be played off here in July and with less than a month to go, the two basketball bodies have done so.Both the male and female teams have been finalised and features the best and brightest faces from the YBG Regional Tournament currently underway.
The contingent features 24 players with 12 male and 12 female players.
Donning the national colours for the male side will be Kevon Wiggins, Kelmar Carmichael, Shamar France (New Amsterdam Multilateral), Roydon Glasgow (Bishops’ High), Kareem Boyle, Akeem Crandon (President’s College), Nigel Bowen, Andrew Johnson (Plaisance Secondary), Jahleel Young, Jordan Alphonso (Marian Academy), Zion Gray (Tutorial) and Jermain King.
On the distaff side: Jada Mohan, Georgiana Vyphuis, Kellian Savers, Jahrier Young (Marian Academy), Onika Rogers (Kwakwani Secondary), Jayla Jones, Kesann Charles (Bishops’ High), Annlesa Barker (New Amsterdam Multilateral) Daniela King (Plaisance Secondary), Demelza Nicholas, Annalisa Barclay (President’s College) and Saffiya Green.
Persons involved within the teams have stated that the teams now need the support since it is their first exposure at the International level, adding that persons as well as the media should refrain from unreasonable expectations.
“We sometimes forget that these players are 13 to 15 years old and the main focus at this level is nurturing.”
Comments were also made that development through competition and exposure is the main focus and the end results of these two would be measured over time at the Under-19 level.
