NATIONAL men’s triple-jump record-holder, Troy Doris, is happy with his second-place finish on Thursday at the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) Diamond League Stockholm Bauhaus Athletics meet in Stockholm, Sweden.
“It was okay. I let a big foul get away, and my form was a little off. Happy with second place though.” the 27-year -old commented.
Under rainy conditions, with 95% humidity, Doris did a best jump of 16.70m to finish behind the USA’s Christian Taylor, who won the event with a distance of 17.59m.Though he says it’s not an excuse, Doris confessed that the weather did play a role in affecting his performance that day.
“Maybe it was because of the weather, I don’t know. It was definitely an environment where you could lose your rhythm quickly because of the cold. It was wet and rainy, and everyone from that competition isn’t training in those conditions at the moment.

“I won’t say it totally impacted performance though, definitely not my main excuse being the weather because Christian Taylor jumped really well.” Doris said
Doris felt that his last jump might’ve been his best jump, had it not been for his foul.
“My last jump that was a foul, [and] was maybe around 16.90m. Definitely not anything to put me in the lead, but it just lets me know I could jump around my average in not the best conditions. Just need to work on better transitions on my first to second phase.” he noted.

Doris, who was earlier this year ranked third in the world with his 17.18m jump in May, has since slipped to fifth place in the current world rankings.
Taylor is currently ranked first in the world rankings with a 17.76m distance. The other top three are the USA’s Will Claye (17.56m), China’s Bin Dong (17.24m) and USA’s Chris Benard (17.19m).
Finished with Stockholm, Doris is now on to his next move: continuing his training in Greece, while he has another upcoming meet set for Finland.

He also has his sights set on participating in another Diamond League meet – the London Grand Pix – in July, as he continues to sharpen his craft for the upcoming 2016 Summer Olympics set for Rio, Brazil, in August.
“Hoping to get into the Diamond League in London on the 23rd July. I was never confirmed for it, but I’m going to email the director. I’m ranked #4 now In the Diamond League as far as points in the triple jump.
“So that gives me a better ranking and entry into the meet, seeing as that rank gives me a bit more leverage.” Doris explained.
