No charge for PPP Parliamentarian —case settled privately

THE office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) has recommended that no charges be instituted against People’s Progressive Party (PPP) parliamentarian, Nigel Dharamlall, who is accused of issuing threats to an official of the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB).Communications Officer at the DPP’s office, Liz Rahaman, in a statement noted that the matter was settled privately between the two parties. It was further noted that the two complainants in the matter made separate statements dated May 21, 2016 to the police requesting that no further police action be taken.
Dharamlall, a former Permanent Secretary of the then Ministry of Amerindian Affairs, allegedly threatened the IDB official at Cummings Lodge, East Coast Demerara, while the official was speaking to his ex-wife.
