A FIFTY-TWO-year-old businessman was released on $500,000 bail by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan on a charge of unlawful and malicious wounding. Ralston Boodhoo, of 14 Miles, Issano Backdam, is accused of unlawfully and maliciously wounding Jai Gopaul Singh on June 14. Boodhoo was unrepresented and denied the allegation.Police Prosecutor, Corporal Deniro Jones, told the court that both men are known to each other and on the day in question, Boodhoo confronted Singh over money owed him which resulted in a heated argument.
It is alleged that the defendant pulled out a sharp object and stabbed Singh twice in his abdomen. Prosecutor Jones strongly opposed bail, pointing out that the accused has given the police several conflicting addresses.
However, bail was granted in the sum $500,000 and the magistrate ordered him to remain 50feet away from Singh. The matter was transferred to the Bartica Magistrates Court for June 29.
