Marijuana plot, camps destroyed in Berbice River

–one arrested, two unlicensed firearms seized in separate incidents

POLICE conducted several drug eradication exercises Saturday in the Berbice River, where over five acres of marijuana cultivation was discovered. The plants ranged between two to seven feet and there were also several nurseries. Police Press Officer, Jairam Ramlakhan said in excess of 600 kilograms of dried cannabis and five camps were destroyed in the raid. No arrests were made.
Meanwhile, the same day members of a police river patrol conducted a search on a house in the Berbice River, where they found an unlicensed single-barrelled shotgun and five live 12-gauge cartridges. A male was arrested and is in police custody assisting with the investigation.
Another man was also arrested in Enmore, East Coast Demerara, after an unlicensed 9mm pistol and 19 live rounds were discovered. He is in police custody assisting with the investigation.
