AUSTRALIA interim coach Justin Langer is considering changes to his team for their tri-series clash against South Africa today.Langer and Co. are searching for a response after suffering a 47-run loss to South Africa last time out.
The teams have moved from Guyana to St Kitts for the next three games of the tri-series, which also includes West Indies.
Langer said he had decisions to make after seeing the pitch at Basseterre.
“It actually feels a lot harder than Guyana’s. It might skid on a bit more for the quicks, might get through a bit more,” he said.
“I’m not sure if it’ll spin as much as Guyana. That would be my gut feel.
“The nets looked very similar and they didn’t spin so much, they just skidded on nicely so we’ll have to have a look at that for the makeup of our team.”
Langer said his team had worked on lifting their intensity in the field after the relatively heavy loss last time out.
Chasing 190 for victory, Australia were bowled out for 142 as only Aaron Finch (72) and Nathan Lyon (30) managed to provide any resistance.
Langer said there was plenty for his team to take out of the loss, particularly with their batting.
“Not so much a harsh review,” he said.
“You’ve always got to learn and I just thought we didn’t pick the ball well enough out of the spinner’s hand and that’s something that’s a basic of batting.
“Under those lights and in those conditions, it was tough, but you give yourself a chance if you pick the ball up early out of the bowler’s hand.
“We maybe weren’t as patient as we needed to be. We said before the game if it takes us 50 overs to get it, it takes us 50 overs to get it.
“We’ve talked about adapting, we’ve talked about having good partnerships and looking after each other and we probably didn’t do any of those things particularly well the other night.”
Farhaan Behardien (62) led South Africa with the bat before Kagiso Rabada (3-13) did most of the damage with the ball.
They top the tri-series table on five points, the same number as Australia and one clear of the hosts.
However, they have lost Rilee Rossouw for the remainder of the tournament due to a shoulder injury, with Dean Elgar replacing him.
