Dravid, Jayawardena in ICC cricket committee

 

FORMER India captain Rahul Dravid and ex-Sri Lanka skipper Mahela Jayawardena have been appointed to the International Cricket Council Cricket Committee, while Anil Kumble has been re-elected chairman for another three-year term.Jayawardena has been appointed as a past player representative, taking over from former Australia skipper Mark Taylor, who completed his final three-year term, while Dravid, along with ex-Australian spinner Tim May, has been chosen by current Test captains to represent the interests of the current players.
They replace Sri Lanka great Kumar Sangakkara and former India leg-spinner Laxman Sivaramakrishnan, while Richard Kettleborough replaced the retired Steve Davis as the umpires’ representative on the committee.
The cricket committee has the authority to recommend changes to the rules by which cricket is governed.
Dravid and Jayawardena played 1 161 international matches between them from 1996 to 2015, with each appointed for a three-year term.
They will attend their first meeting at Lord’s on May 31, three weeks before the ICC’s annual conference is held in Edinburgh.
Dravid is currently coaching India’s Under-19 and A teams, while Jayawardena recently enjoyed a stint with England as batting consultant alongside a stint with the Adelaide Strikers last KFC Big Bash League season.
